I upgraded from the venerable DDJ 400, and probably a little too early, but that said, the difference between the 400 and the 1000 is worlds apart. The 1000 is also pro-level, all the functions and buttons are pretty much the same as CDJ 900's and better. So I could now, in theory, jump straight onto club level gear.

I couldn't mix at a club level, but I could use the gear and know what all the things do.

Do you have a DDJ 1000 in either RB or Serato flavours? Do you only ever use it as a dual channel mixer/controller? Do you think it's too complicated or tricky remembering which deck is playing or lined up next?
The solution is simple...

USE JUST ONE DECK.
If like me you're left handed, then use that deck. So you'll have channel 1+3. Only mix with these two for a while and then switch to 2+4 for a bit.
Before you know it, you'll know exactly what, where and when, and then you'll stand a better chance of using it as a 4 channel controller, and you won't be overwhelmed by 4 channels and two decks.

Digging the set up, especially those custom jog wheels. Groovy they are.

Right now I am running on the prototypical n00b set-up: DDJ-400, Pioneer DM-40 hooked up to my desktop PC.

What's the one thing right off the bat about the 1000 that you like more than the 400?

The first thing is the FX panel, not scrolling through the options on screen any more, and just selecting echo/roll/phaser/whatever and the beat fractions in a second or two. It makes life so much simpler.

That is a good point. I do dislike the scrolling of the effects on the DDJ-400. Admittedly, I need to use the effects more especially during my transitions (I tend to lean on using the LPF and HPF a bit too much for my transitions currently).

I just checked out the video of your set-up and I love the colored lighting effects you have going. May I ask what you use and how to get them set up with "pulsating" to the music you play?

The LED strip is just something I stuck to the edge of my desk, but yeah it looks really cool. I got it from Amazon, and it only cost £20, so really cheap too! I think the overall length is 8 feet, so all the way around the sides and back.

Oh and the stickers I got from a UK company, again around £20 for 6 and they do look very different.
To be honest, I loved the look of the DDJ 1000 screens before I bought it, but almost never use them!
